What constitutes a luxury vacation in Fiji Islands? Luxury can be defined in so many ways and for some it may just be the pleasure of getting away from work, or not having to cook! However, it is generally accepted that a luxury hotel, resort or villa would provide stylish, comfortable accommodation, state of the art bathroom facilities, 5-star dining, and specialised service. • Fiji's premier, exclusive retreats include Wakaya Beach Club in the Lomaiviti region (central Fiji) and Turtle Island on Nanuya Island in the Yasawa group. Wakaya is a private luxury island - honeymoon destination of choice for Bill Gates, Celine Dion and other celebrities. Turtle Island is also a private island, owned by Richard Evans. Both are excellent choices for privacy, and personalised attention to detail.
• Other luxury choices in the beautiful Yasawa group are Yasawa Island Resort (Yasawa Island) and the new Navutu Stars Resort on the island of Yaqeta.
• There are also luxury small ship boutique cruising options to be enjoyed in the Yasawas, with Blue Lagoon Cruises and Captain Cook Cruises.
• The beautiful Mamanuca islands offer further luxury options, such as Matamanoa Island Resort with its horseshoe-shaped white sand beach, well-known as a honeymoon destination. On the island of Malolo, the luxury Likuliku Lagoon Resort opened in April 2007 offering Fiji's first overwater bungalow accommodation (pictured at the top of this page).
• On the main island of Viti Levu, you will find the luxury hotel brands on Denarau Island. They differ from the private luxury islands, of course, which offer greater exclusivity.
• Also on the main island, along the Coral Coast at Korotogo, may be found the Outrigger Lagoon Resort, that offers the Outrigger stamp of quality when it comes to service and facilities.
• In the southern region of Fiji can be found the remote and beautiful Vatulele Resort, with spacious mediterranean-styled villas.
• Meanwhile, in the northern islands can be found a wide range of luxury resorts. In Vanua Levu there is the island resort retreat of Nukubati, while in and around the popular town of Savusavu one may choose from Namale Resort & Spa (owned by the famous motivational speaker Tony Robbins), Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort, Lomalagi Resort and Koro Sun Resort.
• The island of Taveuni (also in the north) offers further luxurious options such as Maravu Plantation Beach Resort & Spa (see massage image above), Taveuni Island Resort, and Taveuni Palms (a private 5-star retreat). Qamea Beach Resort & Spa and Matangi Resort are two other options and are found on islands near to Taveuni. Another nearby island is Laucala, which changed hands recently and is currently undergoing major development including private luxury villas. It augurs to be the most exclusive development in Fiji yet, and will herald a new era of luxury holiday accommodation in the Fiji Islands.
