Suva City Vacation Guide

Suva, capital of the Fiji Islands, is located on the south east coast of Viti Levu and is the main commercial and government centre of the nation. The main city and CBD is located on a peninsula with Laucala Bay on the east and protected Suva Harbour on the west. The Nausori Airport, Suva's international airport, is located just a 30 minute drive east from the center of Suva and the road crosses the mighty Rewa river just before reaching the airport. The Rewa River is Fiji's largest river, and is navigable for more than 160 km (100 miles).

Suva is the largest and most metropolitan city in the island nations of the South Pacific, with a diverse mix of Fijian and South Pacific cultures. It is a place worth the visit in Fiji just to experience the hustle and bustle of this small yet dynamic city. There are a number of 'Attractions' such as the Fiji Museum, Fiji Parliament Building, Government Buildings, Thurston Gardens, University of the South Pacific and the colourful Suva market that is found close to the bus station and Suva wharves. Suva also has a golf course and visitors are welcome. At the top of the Princes Road is the Kolo-i-Suva Forest Park, a natural rainforested area with walking trails, waterfalls and colourful native birds.

Accommodation in Suva ranges from hotels such as the Tanoa Plaza, Holiday Inn and Suva Motor Inn, to boutique hotels such as the stylish JJ's, budget hotels such as the Capricorn, and homestays such as the Suva Homestay. Just outside Suva at Lami is the Tradewinds Hotel & Convention Centre (formerly the Raffles Tradewinds), picturesquely sited at the Bay of Islands with yachts moored in the protected bay out the front.
